My father is slowly declining in health due to lung disease and cancer. Mother is disabled. I am single and no kids. My sibling has 3 daughters. Two of them haven’t called or been seen in six months. The other stopped in one time since New Years weekend. My mom has tried being active in their life trying to call them and stay in touch but they generally ignore her calls and do not call back. I guess some of it is they receive fewer presents as my parents finances are more strained due to aging and health problems. I guarantee when Christmas is there they will be there in a flash because there will be money in gift cards and free gifts. It aggravates me that they do not even say thank you. These kids are in their 20s. It has bothered me so much I am refusing to go my nieces wedding. I mean, after all, we are only good when there is a free gift. Let em learn the hard way.

In a strong Christian community, any thoughts on assistance and guidance from church family and close friends, outside of the immediate family? Also, when should professional help be sought, i.e. Christian counselors and or church youth workers/pastoral staff? Any dangers posed by airing familial “dirty laundry” outside the family? Where do principles of Christian conflict resolution fit?
