When our grandkids become teenagers, their lives get busy. That often means spending less time together. And it may feel like we’re losing ground in this precious relationship, but family expert Dr. Joni Debrito says we can think of these years as a brief hiatus during adolescence is healthy.
For our grandkids to create some distance as they spend more time with peers and figure out who they are and how they fit in, they will drift in and out of your life during adolescence. So let them drift for a while and welcome them with open arms when they drift back. Continue to invest in their lives and set the stage for a healthy, fulfilling relationship in the future.
