I do a lot of pondering around the season. Over the last couple of years, I have heard cultural bits and pieces of information that have made the story even more meaningful. One is the status of shepherds at that time; they were not sweet gentle souls out on the hillside. They were a despised group and their status was definitely lowly. Yet they above all the people were the recipients of the angelic proclamation.
