After decades of successes and failures, grandparents have gained a wealth of wisdom. And sometimes we’re tempted to unleash those priceless lessons on our offspring. Well, before you do, consider this wise saying: Experience is a better teacher than advice. I like the way that Dr. Jim burns puts it. He said when we’re tempted to infuse our wisdom, sometimes the best thing to do is … and I’m quoting now … keep our mouth shut and the front door open.
We get it, don’t we? Unsolicited advice is taken as criticism. So instead of lecturing, work on building a relationship of trust. Remember, experience is a better teacher.
