Question:
How can I encourage my husband when our daughter, who is a prodigal, has words with him that reopen old wounds?
We don’t want to lose the connection with our 3 grandkids and don’t want to be cut off from visiting them every 4 or 5 months, since they’re out of state. We used to Zoom once a week, but as they have gotten older this last year, she stopped zooming with us.
My husband has Stage 4 cancer and has a limited life expectancy. The grandkids are all under the age of 5.
Response:
This is a really sad situation and I am sorry that you are dealing with it.
You might want to encourage your husband to talk with your daughter and acknowledge that the two of them are having difficulty talking with one another.
He could also request that she agree to set their differences aside so he has the time and opportunity to talk with the grandchildren and continue to have a relationship with them.
If your daughter won’t allow that, he could send letters to his grandchildren.
