Intentional Christian Grandparenting
A STARTER KIT FOR CHURCH MINISTRY
STEP 3
Introduce Key Concept of Intentional Christian Grandparenting
This step is about sharing your grandparenting vision with the church as a whole and getting maximum exposure to grandparents. The options and resources below have been effective for many churches. Create a plan for sharing this vision that fits with the culture of your church and opportunities that arise.
Option 1 – A Proven Method
(total time 35-45 minutes not counting boxed lunch)
- Make an announcement 1-2 weeks earlier to sign up.
- After Sunday morning services (best option as grandparents are already at church and they like food; but whatever is best for your church culture as to day and time):
- Provide food. We recommend boxed lunches, but this is optional. Just be mindful of timing of the day.
- Use the document “Presentation for Proven Method”. We recommend two people that alternate sharing the monologue, but an individual will work as well.
- If time allows have Q/A afterwards
- Have a sign up table for the Grandparenting Matters study.

Before Meeting:
- Set up tables (round is preferred to encourage conversation)
- Set out lunch
- Place Legacy Coalition brochures on the tables
- For the presenter(s): Brochures reflect many of the resources for intentional Christian grandparenting. They are free to order as many as you want, you only pay for shipping. Order extra and set them around your church later.

Option 2 – Alternate Method
(total time 4.5 minutes or less)
During a Sunday morning service from the pulpit:
- Ask the congregation 3 quick questions:
- How many of you are grandparents?
- How many of you will become a grandparent for the first time?
- How many of you know a grandparent?
- Show the “Legacy Coalition” intro video
- Announce after clip: “We will be in the lobby after the service to answer more questions about intentional Christian grandparenting that starts [insert date].”
